Truth or Truths?

Are we ever going to unravel all the mysteries of this world or the universe? I've always held the belief that we will never be able to do that. I believed that the knowledge we create, the more unknowns are revealed. The mysteries are increasing and expanding exponentially and hence will be never-ending. And if at all there is an end to it, there would be not one single, universal truth, there would be only universal truths.

But recently i started getting the feeling that, that is not true. There might be a single, "unified theory" or truth by which the whole universe runs. Its just that we are at a point in this large expanse of the 'knowledge space', that we don't realise where we are heading to.
I see the two scenario as

1) where the knowledge space is a ever expanding sphere and we(all humans) started their quest to understand the universe at the centre of the sphere. Each of us are 'digging' radially outwards in different directions, hence diverging paths. Interlinking theories are tunnels between two diverging paths.

2)where the knowledge space is a static sphere and we started our quest from the outer surface of the sphere. Each of us are digging radially inwards from different sides. The centre of the sphere being the ultimate truth. And, as before, the interlinking theories being tunnels between these converging paths.

So are we converging to an ultimate truth or are we diverging in this never-ending expanse of knowledge (or what seems to be never-ending)?

I was reading this article that came on rediff, which was a first hand account of Field Marshal Sam Mankeshaw. The article had lot of incidents that had happend during his lifetime and was all praise for the Field Marshal. But the article ended like this:

I think the top leaders of the Indian Army are Field Marshal K M Cariappa, General K S Thimayya and Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw. I rate General Thimayya number one. India hasn't produced a better general than him.

What an anti-climax!!

Shaolin temple has setup an online store to sell its goods which include T-shirts, shoes, slippers....

"Shaolin temple is getting less and less likeable," one Internet user wrote in an essay posted on news site ifeng.com on Wednesday. "There's a giant laughing buddha in Shaolin temple. If it saw what the temple is doing these days, I'm not so sure it would still be laughing."

The traditionalists must be pulling their hairs out! If this was in some temple in India (esp. Kerala) people would have declared strike on the internet...may be even develop an application to throw stones at the online store...after all necessity is the mother of invention!

In UP,each Dalit houses in the village Sakrar are supplied 200litres of water a day via six tankers every morning. In contrast, Magarpur, a village just few kilometers away from Sakrar, is supplied water only once in a while as people over there are of upper castes!!

Now thats what I call politics! Water suppy according to caste! I can't believe there are people like this in this 21st century!

Admission faulty...even in IITs!

RTI expose the faulty admission procedure of the IITs.

However, professor Arvind Kejriwal who himself is from IIT Kharagpur filed an RTI wanting to know how these minimum cut-offs were calculated and the marks of all the two-lakh fifty-thousand plus students who appeared in the 2006 examination.
The computer engineering professor then computed this data using the IIT's own formula and found that the cut off's for the three subjects come to seven, four and six. Two other independent statisticians verified this as well.

When the result of the IIT screening test came, the year I wrote it, friends used to ask us our rank and we would say 20 or 35 or 42. One of my friends, who was totally confused, asked me, "What do you mean 42??..and yet you didn't pass??!!" ...I said "Its 42000, not 42 you duf!"

Likewise is it something like the above incident?..what do they mean by 7, 4, 6 ??!!! do they mean 70, 40, 60?!!

Sreesanth got into a fight with the hotel staff over a noisy air conditioner in his room.

The argument that commenced late on Sunday was finally resolved on Monday morning with the management being able to pacify Sreesanth.
Sreesanth is in Bangalore for a fitness programme. He has not spoken publicly about the incident, choosing rather to retire to his room and put up a do not disturb sign at the door.

He probably got slapped and is crying inside his room. So guys don't disturb him!

Yesterday I was watching the movie 'Gandhi'. Needless to say, it's an amazing movie which I feel every Indian should watch. The last time I watched this movie I was 4 or 5 years old.
One of the dialogues that struck me was

Gandhi: "Mr. Kinnoch, I beg you to accept that there is no people on earth who would not prefer their own bad government to the "good" government of an alien power."

It reminded me of Iraq.
