Kerala and global warming

  • Feb. 15th, 2008 at 12:12 AM

When I read about global warming, I always wonder, if the reason for this problem are the pollution due to all the vehicles and industries, why dont we declare one day all over the world as a 'holiday' when there will be no cars or bikes or buses on the road, no factories will be operating....a pure, 'carbondioxide-free' day!

I know the idea is very impractical and improbable but just imagine if...if only we could manage such a day the amount of emission reduced would have been huge! (i think so)

This is where kerala, which is a model in so many areas(check hyperlinks), is trying to be one in its fight against global warming....yep thats right...we are trying really hard to bring the whole state to a standstill at least for a couple of months a year.

According to the statistics of the Hartal Virudha Munnani,  Kerala 'celebrated' 168 hartals in the year 2006. Thats an amazing feat indeed!!

If Al Gore could bag the Nobel Peace Prize for making a movie about global warming and sponsoring a couple of rock concerts, i strongly feel the political parties in Kerala too deserve to be honoured.

My vote goes for the communist party.

very critical and humourous! in a state where politicians believe in 'revolution' at the cost of people's life, this record of 168 days a year may soon be broken. it is more likely if the LDF goes to opposition in the next election! i heard one so-called leader saying that the society has to pay a price for bringing changes, and this is one way of paying that! what a nonsense! i have travelled throughout the world, but cannot remember a single incident in any country or place except kerala where i got stranded in remote and unfamiliar locations, where i had to sleep in the sidewalks, where i had to go to airport 48 hours ahead of travel out due to hartal-like bullshits. this is nothing but the results of kerala-brand political perversion!. now a days i hear lot of criticism against people becoming increasingly apolitical because, as the critics say, of the influence of .......globalization. i think this argument is merely to cover up their own role in making people more and more disgusted and weary of politics and politicians. anyway, i applaud you for expressing yr anger!! kv

How are keeping bicycles off the road helping? They don't produce carbon dioxide, and actually take it out of the air if used instead of motor vehicles. Maybe you need to think this through a little more.

vere paniyonnumille!!
haha...sounds funny for a person like me who has a neutral stand in politics... Ur right in pointing out the number of hartals , but ending up with a 'valathu chayvu' may not be appreciated by many.

ya i agree with your thoughts to control pollution....it is known to every one,the real cause of global warming...but nobody cares...they will even notice only if they got really affected....our land is having so many persons whom we called 'leaders' but still we lack a leader who can initiate an action for the goodness of the world of today and tomorrow.
