Few days back I posted a news about a Kerala "Godman" being arrested, but before that was over, here's another one. This guy attempted murder and to commit suicide but didn't succeed. Hope he is the last "Kerala godman" in jail. :-|

Indians find U.S. at fault for food cost.
Pradeep S. Mehta, secretary general of the center for international trade, economics and the environment of CUTS International, an independent research institute based here, said that if Americans slimmed down to the weight of middle-class Indians, “many hungry people in sub-Saharan Africa would find food on their plates.”

The United States uses — or throws away — 3,770 calories a person each day, according to data from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization collected in 2001-3, compared with 2,440 calories per person in India. Americans are also the largest per capita consumers in any major economy of the most energy-intensive common food source, beef, the Agriculture Department says.

And the United States and Canada lead the world in oil consumption per person, according to the Energy Information Administration, an Energy Department agency.

You very likely own stolen goods...

....The gas in your car, the circuits in your cell phone, the diamond in your ring, the chemicals in your lipstick or shaving cream — even the plastic in your computer may be the product of theft.
An interesting article I found on Marginal Revolution: Is it patronizing theft to buy natural resources?

Romantic movies

  • May. 14th, 2008 at 6:52 PM
It was exam time and I don't know why, I badly wanted to watch some really good romantic movies. So, as usual I check the internet for best romantic movies list. Here are the ones I watched in the past couple of weeks:

1. City of Angels(1998)
2. The Notebook(2004)
3. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind(2004)
4. Casablanca(1942)
5. Love Story(1970)
6. The Holiday(2006)
7. Pride & Prejudice(2005)
I had already watched some of the movies those websites suggested like Sleepless in Seattle, Titanic, When Harry met Sally...I didn't watch those again. I wanted to put my own short reviews about these six movies but then these are all kind of old ones so no point in me doing it.

By the way I haven't stopped watching romantic movies so if you guys have any suggestion please let me know.

This guy is a joker!

Bush quit playing golf in 2003 out of respect for the dead soldiers.

What cracks me up is this statement of Bush:
They pulled me off the golf course and I said, it's just not worth it anymore to do
You can imagine how he might have said this.

Here's a video of Will Ferrel imitating Bush...it's hillarious!

Barack Obama

A New York Times article: The Rise of Obama.

Still, Mr. Khalidi said ascertaining Mr. Obama’s precise position was often difficult. “You may come away thinking, ‘Wow, he agrees with me,’ ” he said. “But later, when you get home and think about it, you are not sure.”

After reading the article I had the same feeling - were the authors trying to make him look good or were they smearing him?...I'm not sure.

Priority - Beer or a kid?!

A driver fastens a carton of beer with the seat belt leaving his child unsecured.

This incident wouldn't have made it to any news channel or newspaper if it were in India.

Food disposal in the time of food crisis

  • May. 13th, 2008 at 4:35 PM
Government to dispose 32000 tonnes of  bad wheat.

CNN-IBN had first reported that the Government of India had imported approximately seven million tonnes of red wheat unfit for human consumption in the past two years, to be distributed through the PDS.

Godman arrested

  • May. 13th, 2008 at 3:43 PM
Kerala godman accused of cheating arrested.

Based on an e-mail complaint the Kerala police had raided his property on Sunday and recovered porn CDs, documents of land deals, bottles of liquor and a tiger skin.

Imagine how all the people who were 'blessed' by this guy are feeling now.

Such fun!
Dr Tessy Thomas who works for the DRDO, has been cleared to be appointed to the post of project director of the upgraded version of the 2000 km-long nuclear capable Agni-II missile.

Good to see women getting some space in this male dominated world. As many others I too believe gender should not be the criterion for selecting a person to a post rather, it should be one's merit.

Fully covered cheerleaders!

  • May. 12th, 2008 at 11:06 AM
Heh.

The cheerleaders of Deccan Chargers and Knight Riders were seen with their bodies fully covered. Even the dancers and singers, who entertained the spectators before the start of the match, were fully covered.

Pakistan's Shahid Afridi, who is playing for Deccan Chargers, had also raised an objection to the cheerleaders' performance during the matches saying it would distract the players.

So are they going to wear burqa and dance?!

Man!...that would be really distracting to me...I'm thinking of the dementors in Harry Potter!
